Willow Wood Junior High

Orchestra

Welcome to the Willow Wood Orchestra Page! I am so excited to make music with you this year. This is my 7th year teaching and I look forward to being part of the Tomball ISD community. Prior to this I taught three years at Klein Cain High School and three years at Schindewolf Intermediate in Klein ISD.

I am a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in Music Education and Leadership Distinction in Research. While at USC, I had the chance to teach at the University of South Carolina String Project teaching local students how to play string instruments. I also played in the Symphony Orchestra and presented at the American String Teachers Association Convention in Kentucky. I am an active member of the Texas Music Educator Association and freelance as a violinist in local groups. When I am not teaching, I enjoy visiting family when possible, cooking, and spending time with my husband and two dogs.

The Willow Wood Orchestra program consists of 100 members in grades 6-8. Orchestra members begin in 6th grade at our feeder campus Northpointe Intermediate. There are four 7th and 8th grade performing orchestras at Willow Wood JH (Sinfonietta, Concert, Philharmonic, Chamber). These ensembles consistently earn Superior ratings in concert and sight reading UIL contests.

Private Lessons Information

Private Lessons are designed as one-on-one private instruction between your child and a master teacher. Private lessons will supplement skills learned in your child’s class, help diagnose and amend weaknesses, introduce them to advanced techniques, and provide musical enrichment through discussions of music history, theory, and performance practices.

Lessons may occur before, during, or after school depending on available times and are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Once enrolled in private lessons, it is the expectation that a student remains enrolled for the entire school year. This allows the student to continue to develop and refine their instrumental skills.

All lesson instructors are required to pass a Tomball ISD Background Check and are personally interviewed and approved by directors at each campus. These are the only instructors allowed to teach on our campus.

Payment will be paid directly to the instructor, usually on a month by month basis, but other arrangements can be discussed with the individual instructor. The individual instructor will contact you to arrange payments.*

Prior notice is required if your child will miss a lesson, otherwise you could be charged. Emergencies do happen, and if so please contact the lesson instructor when you are able. Additionally, the lesson instructor is expected to communicate their absences and schedule make up lessons or adjust payment as needed. Communication between the lesson instructor and the parent/guardian is the single, greatest factor in the success of your child’s lessons.
