Newsflash - Week of

Good Morning Parents!

Last week we started our Literature Circles.  Most of the students did a very good job!  Several of them, however, did not complete their roles.  :(  Because the students have had one week to complete this as homework, it will not be accepted late.  This week, Role #2 will be  due on Thursday, because Friday is a holiday for the students.

The packet outlines exactly what to do on each role and even gives them an example.  I also will be showing them examples today of ones that some students did that are amazing!

This week, we will be doing the following:

Monday:  Review for the 9-Week Test
Tuesday - Wednesday:  Take the 9-Week Test
Thursday - Literature Circles.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at any time.  Hope you are all well; we have had a very  high number of students out with either the flu or strep!  Stay healthy!!

Peace on your week!

Newsflash - Week of 01/28/19

Hello Parents!

I hope you had a restful weekend!

Here is what we will be doing this week in ELA:

Today through Wednesday, we are taking a Writing Benchmark.  We are pacing the passages and I am having the students use the strategies that are on the videos in Google Classroom.  They seem to be doing well. :)

Thursday and Friday, we are diving in to the Literature Circles.  I am going to model what my expectations are on each role and we will start reading on Friday.  If you can not purchase the book by Wednesday, January 30th, please let me know.  As of today, only one student has let me know that they can not obtain one.  If you are unsure of the novel your child is going to read, please ask them which they chose.  I will not be posting the choices for every student.

I hope you have a wonderful week!  Sunshine sent your way!

Happy MLK Day Parents!

This week, we will be doing the following:
  • Reading and analyzing a Historical Fiction piece.  There will notes and a packet that they will be completing. This will be a major grade.
  • Friday, we will be completing a revising passage, which will be paired with the editing passage we did last Friday, for one daily grade.
All students have chosen their Literature Circle book.  As stated in earlier emails, if you can afford to purchase the book, that would be great as the students will be highlighting and writing in them.  If you can not, no problem!  We will have a class set on hand that they can check out, but they will need to have a small notebook to record the data since they can not write in these.  PLEASE DO NOT let your student start reading the book yet.  We will be starting them on 01/31/19.  It is imperative that they do not read ahead as we will be predicting and having discussion that will compromise the learning if they do.

Hope all of you are well, and that you are enjoying this beautiful weather!  Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

Blessings on your week!

Good Morning Parents!

I hope you are staying warm on this chilly morning!!

This week, we will be doing the following:

Monday-Thursday we will be completing our Expository Essay on kindness.  The students should have more than enough time in class, however, if they are not using their time wisely, may have to do some at home.

Friday, we will be working on a STAAR Revising and Editing passage.

We also are going to the library today and will be discussing the Literature Circle books that they will be working on starting in February.  At this time, we are making sure that all of the books are going to stay on the list and that we have enough copies should students not bring their own. I will be sending another email under separate cover once all of this has been cleared, letting you  know which book your student has selected. :)

I hope you all have a wonderful week!  Should you have any questions, please contact me at any time.

Blessings!

Happy New Year!

I hope and pray you all had a wonderful holiday season!  I am looking forward to having the kids back and diving in to prepare for the second  half of the year!  :)

Here is what we will be doing the rest of this week:

Today, we will be creating a one word goal for the rest of the year.  We will look back at 2018 and see what we want to change to make 2019 better.  We will claim this word and set goals to make it a reality this year!

Thursday and Friday, we will start a new Expository Essay on kindness.  Since the students have done random acts of kindness, this should be a fairly easy paper to write.

Have a wonderful rest of the week!  Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

Last Newsflash of 2018!

Merry Christmas Parents!

I hope you are all doing well this week before the holiday and you are also finding some peace during this time.

This last week, we will be doing the following:
  • StarRen Reading Level Assessment (We were going to do this on Friday, but were not able to do the same as some students were making up the 9-Week Test)
  • Tomorrow and Wednesday, the students are creating a poem with all the literary elements they have learned this year so far.
  • Thursday is our Secret Santa Exchange.  If your student is participating, please have them bring in their gift no later than tomorrow so that all gifts can be accounted for; I don't want anyone left without a gift.
  • Friday is a half day for the students.  They will go to the Christmas Showcase and then have shorter periods with each teacher.
***  Tomorrow is GRADE RECOVERY MAKE-UP!  If your child scored below a 70 on a Major Exam, they can come before school (after 6:45), or stay after school from 3:00-3:40 to make this up to earn up to a 70.  I can not tell your students who needs to come.  They need to approach me and sign up tomorrow during class so that I am equipped with enough make-ups.  PLEASE NOTE!  There are NO late buses this last week, therefore, they will need to have a ride or way home.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

May you have a wonderful break and an amazing holiday season of peace and love!

Happy Holidays!!

This week in ELA, we are working on analyzing poetry.  The kids will  most likely have poetry on the STAAR Test, and some of them are difficult to understand and disect.  So, we are tackling this together this week as a class, with partners, and then ultimately, on our own.

The classes have also decided to do a "Secret Santa" gift exchange the Thursday before we leave for the holidays. (12/20).  The minimum is $10.  This is optional, and several students have chosen not to play.  Each child that wanted to participate chose a random name to purchase their gift for.

Progress reports will be coming out this week, and we are on the down slide to the holiday break.  I hope you are all well and enjoying the holiday spirit and the cooler weather!  :)

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me anytime.

Holiday blessings to you all!

Newsflash - Week of 111218

Good Morning Parents!

I hope you are all staying warm and dry with the winter weather rolling in!  This week in ELA we will be doing the following:

  • Completing our first Expository Paper. (This will be a Major Grade)
  • Taking a Mock STAAR Test (Thursday and Friday).  This will be done on the computer for the first time.  This will not be a grade.
I wanted to take the time to tell you all how thankful I am for your children and all of you.  It truly is a life calling to be a teacher, and with students as good as yours, it makes the job so much more enjoyable.  I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving, full of many memories of love and gratefulness.

** Many students did not complete their homework that was due no later than Sunday 11/11/18 at midnight.  I have given them the opportunity to complete with a late penalty.  Please ensure your student has done this as a zero will really impact their grade!

If you have any questions, or concerns, please let me know.

In thanks,

 Hello Parents!

I pray you had a wonderful, restful weekend!

This week in ELA, we will be doing the following:

Monday, we went to Play Previews of our school play.  This gave the students a peek at drama on stage!  I love when students see this for the first time; it is exciting and eye-opening for many.  :)

The rest of week, we will be creating our first Expository Essay.  This is one of the key concepts that your child will be tested on this year with the STAAR Test.

If you have any questions, or concerns, please let me know any time.

NEWSFLASH - IMPORTANT - HOMEWORK ASSIGNED

Hi Parents!

Today I assigned homework in ELA.  It is due on Sunday 11/11 by midnight.  It is on my Google Classroom and the students will not have time in class to do this.  The assignment is a poster for my Level classes, and it is a few pictures/charts for my PAP students.  They will be asked questions regarding these graphics.  They will need to really pay attention to them in order to answer them correctly.  This will be tested on the STAAR Test, so please check them before they submit.  Also, it is very important that they answer any short response questions with a complete sentence.  They need to restate the question in their answer.  If this is not done correctly, I will not accept the answer.  This also will be tested on the STAAR because they need to restate the prompt in their Expository Writing Essay.

Thank you for all of your help and assistance!  It truly takes a village to raise these children and partnering with you is a wonderful thing when the kids are learning!  :)

Have a wonderful evening!!
